4-20-2004 - Fremont, CA - .com Solutions Inc. releases FmPro Migrator 1.97 Enterprise Edition for MacOS X and Windows - New Release Adds FileMaker to PostgreSQL Migration Feature

.com Solutions Inc., a developer of multi-platform database development tools, has released FmPro Migrator 1.97 for MacOS X and Windows with a new FileMaker to PostgreSQL migration feature. Converting a FileMaker Pro database to PostgreSQL enables developers to scale up database solutions for higher capacity and functionality. Well regarded as the world's most advanced open source relational database system, the PostgreSQL database incorporates functionality such as stored procedures, foreign keys, user defined types, functions and operators. These enhanced features are not currently available within other open source databases. PostgreSQL is also available for a wide variety of operating systems, thus giving IT departments wide flexibility concerning deployment hardware.

FmPro Migrator standardizes and automates the migration process including data type matching, field to column renaming, table creation, FileMaker field datasize determination and data transfer. The data transfer from FileMaker to PostgreSQL is performed via an ODBC connection between the two databases in order to maintain accuracy and provide for the migration of images and large text fields. FileMaker container field images are migrated to PostgreSQL "lo" (large object type) columns which are fully supported by the PostgreSQL ODBC driver.

New Features of FmPro Migrator include:

-- Scale up FileMaker Databases to PostgreSQL - PostgreSQL offers performance and functionality improvements over FileMaker database files. PostgreSQL incorporates a rich feature set including, stored procedures, triggers, and replication of data for high availability.

-- Migrate All FileMaker Data Types to PostgreSQL - FmPro Migrator utilizes PostgreSQL's user defined type capability to migrate FileMaker container fields to the commonly supported 'lo' (binary large object) column type. This user defined type is fully supported by the PostgreSQL ODBC driver and is included as a standard feature with Mammoth PostgreSQL distributions.

-- Improvements to FileMaker to FileMaker 7 migrations - Additional FileMaker 7 reserved words have been incorporated within FmPro Migrator 1.97. The addition of these reserved words means that fewer table creation errors will occur when building FileMaker 7 database tables.

-- Full Functionality for FmPro Migrator Demo Edition - The latest demo edition of FmPro Migrator is now fully functional for a limited number of database fields. This enhanced functionality means that potential customers can fully test all FmPro Migrator features prior to making a purchase decision.

FmPro Migrator is available for MacOS X and Windows. A free demo version of FmPro Migrator may be downloaded from www.fmpromigrator.com/downloads/index.html. For more info please see: www.fmpromigrator.com/products/fmpro_migrator
